MEET REYNA

I was born in Guanajuato, Rancho del Cerro, Mexico. My ancestry is Purepucha, Spanish, and African. When I was seven, I immigrated with my family to Watsonville, California, where my parents would become campesinos. Witnessing my mother birth and care for me and my nine siblings without support and through many struggles inspired my desire to advocate for those that were in immense vulnerability. My childhood traumas were the ashes from which my passion for caring and love were born. My upbringing ignited my curiosity for empathy and healing.

In my early adulthood, birthing my two children was so beautiful and precious, in spite of hospital-induced births with insensitive physicians that bypassed my informed consent throughout the process. I became an elementary school teacher so I could be there for children, helping carry them through the gaps they had of unmet needs through support of the educational system. I have served as a counsellor advocate for at-risk youth, and the teen moms I cared for reignited my passion to support people in birth and post partum.

I served on the boards of four non-profit organizations, where my main focus had been to create safe spaces for healing.

MY JOURNEY

“I’m curious what’s in your heart.”

— Reyna

Reclaiming maternal wisdom stems from natural healing practices used while giving birth within my ancestral roots in ancient mesoamerica, which I carry close to my “nanyotl”. This word translates in the nahuatl language, Nantli is mother and Yotl is heart. It means something akin to heart of motherhood, or maternal womb. My cultural expression from the Anahuac Culture of Mexico is interwoven in my practice as a doula in contemporary times.

As opportunities arise, I often travel to Mexico and Latin America to work side by side with birth workers and traditional healers from different backgrounds. They caretake ancestrally distinct, yet similar, styles, techniques, and philosophies. It’s with great pleasure that I bring you my wisdom and services full circle.

I feel the urgency for womyn to reclaim sacredness and innate power in birthing our young ones.
